Turkey day is fast approaching and we have been very busy with things that have nothing to do with the holidays.  For one thing, my wife traveled overseas to a wedding with our youngest child.  I'm going to spend Thanksgiving with our older daughter, so it is going to be a low key holiday for us.

The shopping will be left up to me, so I came up with this list of what we are eating:

Shopping List for a simple Thanksgiving:

A Turkey!
Gravy mix
Stuffing
Potatoes
Green Beans
Cranberry
Flour (for my sour dough rolls)
Wine

I may add things as the big day approaches. I live next to the market, plus we has quite a bit of the things already needed for the big dinner.

For the bird, we are going with a fairly small one, maybe about 14 lbs.  Otherwise it is going to be standard dishes for our dinner.  This year I also am not going to make much from scratch.  I'm buying gravy mix, but will still make a broth with the turkey neck.  I probably will not do much baking either, and l will buy a preprepared apple pie.

I also will get some dinner rolls in case my sour dough starter does not come through for me.  For the past week it has been percolating in the refridgerator.  I made a few test loaves of bread, and they came out pretty good.  They need a little more rise time and I think they will be OK. I just get a little impatient and want to put the loaf in the oven before its time.

Keep a running list of needed groceries on your refrigerator door. When you are running low, jot it down on the list.  This will help keep emergency trips to the grocery store to a minimum by ensuring you have a complete grover list at the end of the week
